Conway Sponsors Museums After Hours

FALMOUTH - Sponsored by Jack Conway Realtors agent Barbara Bauer and manager Peter Hawley, Museums After Hours was another rousing success August 7. It was the second event of its kind sponsored by Conway-Falmouth this summer, part of a free cultural series that tells the story of the town. The audience was treated to the beautiful voice of Candida Rose, and the deep felt words of poet Jarita Davis, expressing the joy and hardships of those who came to America from Cape Verde to Falmouth. The Cape Verdeans’ effort was a very productive and essential part of the early success of the area’s agriculture, which is celebrated by a number of exhibits at the Falmouth Museums on the Green. “Barbara and I had a wonderful time and are proud that a company like Conway understands that supporting community events is an essential part of our business,” said Hawley. “The extraordinary performance of both Candida and Jarita made this one of the best ways to spend a summer evening in Falmouth.” Jack Conway Co. is celebrating its 51st Anniversary as the largest independently owned real estate company in Massachusetts. There are 40 sales offices from Boston to Cape Cod.

Davis' lines are direct and suffused with personal verve. Their imagery is often muted and earthy, like the passage above on the cranberry laborer, and though they lack flashy verbiage, they possess a compelling honesty and an emotional depth not unlike the traditional morna that Cesaria Evora introduced to a world of listeners.
